I spent sometime in Iceland this summer, enjoying some of the best driving of my life. The landscapes were sometimes foreign, sometimes very much like home, and many times a mix of both. I’ve been sitting on these images for a while because I couldn’t decide which direction to take them in, vibrant and colourful or dull and neutral; in the end I am playing with both and will try to present them in couplings.
As a companion to the previous photo (and on a fitting date), here is a photo of my great grandfather. I believe it was taken shortly after he signed up for the great war, he was either 15 or 16 years old. So far as I know he saw quite a bit of action, perhaps Somme, Passchendale, Vimy, Amiens, etc.
Copied and touched up a photo of my great grandmother today. The photo sits in an ovoid glass and is itself rounded (how, I have no idea); thus, it required being copied by camera instead of a simple scan.
I don’t know when exactly it is from, maybe early 1920s. It looks to have been airbrushed quite a bit (the hair and dress) and has some false colour, giving it a very pictorial look.

Squash, turnip, potatoes, onions, ambrosia apples, a lemon, a red pepper, rainbow chard, arugula, pea shoots and blueberries
Green cabbage, sweet potatoes, empire apples, shiitake mushrooms, clementines, kale, tomatoes, and sunflower sprouts.
For the last month I’ve been receiving a bag of vegetables each week, with selection changing from week to week. This week features: red leaf lettuce, rainbow carrots, yellow onions, green zucchini, lemons, mango, ambrosia apples, belgian endives, bell pepper, garlic and white mushrooms.
It’s an interesting way of forcing you to try new things.
